Model year: 1991 Date Purchased: 2012-10-10 Number of Hours: 3000

"I bought this tractor at a fraction of the price of a similar used Kubota or JD. It starts in the coldest weather, has been reliable for odd jobs around the homestead. The FEL is large and powerful. The brakes however, are poor. The axle seals leak onto the brake causing slippage. A great overall tractor for the going price."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Starts in the cold, fuel efficient. Cons: Loud, somewhat difficult to find service/parts. Type of User: Homeowner 1-10 Acres Location: USA NJ I also considered buying:

Model year: 1989 Date Purchased: 1989-09-03 Number of Hours: 1450

"I have had my Deutz 6240 for approximately 21 years. I purchased it new in 1989 and then in 1991, I added a FEL. It has been a superb operating tractor. The only work on it I have ever had to do is to replace the battery once, change the oil, replace the tires (last month), and take it into the dealer for the recommended 500 and 1000 hr service. It uses no oil and starts in the Winter (air cooled engine) like a dream. I use it primarily to run my bush hog and plow snow. I have also used it to cut and bale hay. As I am going to a round baler, I upgraded to a larger tractor - a JD 5093. I would have purchased another Deutz, but there are no dealers in our area anymore. I will still keep my 6240 as my go to tractor for small jobs on the farm as it sips fuel and easy to get around in the woods with it. "
