"Back in 1987 when I bought this machine, $2,500 was a lot of money for a lawn tractor, but little did I realize how much I would save over the years.
Friends and neighbors are on their second and third lawn tractors, while this Honda just keeps on mowing our 1-acre lot year after year. While the fuel tank is small by today’s standards, as usual Honda fuel consumption is low, allowing me to get three complete cuttings before refueling.
While it is only 10 horsepower, I've never required more power, not even in tall wet grass. Both of the original deck belts were finally replaced last summer, that's quite the life span for any belt. Unlike the red, green, yellow and orange machines, Honda used a 5/8-inch belt instead of the ½-inch used by the lesser brands.
In addition to the belts, both of the side bogey wheels on the deck have been replaced. With exception of maintenance items, air filter, and battery, every other part is original. Even the spark plug is OE. I challenge any other make or model from this era to have such a stellar record.
This machine has never seen a garden hose. All dust and debris have been removed with a leaf blower. Oil changes are done once a year and thorough chassis lube 2 times per year. Steering is tighter than on brand new machines today. As with all good things, I dread the day when my HT3810 finally succumbs to old age, but for now it's life as usual. Hoping to see 40.
