"This was a first-time tractor purchase for a 28-acre property. The tractor has a 512 loader. I also purchased 6-foot Modern Dragon rotary cutter. I have been very happy with the tractor and implements. I have used the loader to move dead trees, moving and filling deer feeders, and fence building. The gears and transmission are easy to use as is the 3-point hitch system. I also have a disc harrow that I connect to the hydraulic connectors at the rear of the tractor. The PTO operates very well. I am thinking about purchasing a quick-connect system for easier installation of cutter, auger, and sub-soiler."

"I bought the tractor looking for a simple basic machine with local dealer support. Upgraded from a 28hp machine to this 55hp was the best decision I could have made. Not a lot of bells and whistles on this machine, but very strong and a great value. Living in the brush country of Texas I love that the steering cylinders are protected behind the front axle. And the front-end loader handles the large round bales with ease pull a 7 foot cutter no problem really enjoying it so far."

"I grew up with John Deere tractors. Two cylinders, A,B, 50 and 60. We owned a 3020 and traded it for a generation II 4030. All great tractors for their time. After leaving the farm for a few years I got back into hobby farming on my own place. I bought the 5055d and 512 loader as a modern 3020. It does not have all the bells and whistles the 3020 did as a new tractor but is reasonably priced and does all of the loader work with ease. I love the fit and finish of this tractor and loader. A great work horse and very stable. I use it all winter here in Wisconsin and with the engine heater it starts easily @ -20 degrees F. With brush hog and back blade this tractor makes working fun!"

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Operator ease, comfortable, great brand, dealer support. Cons: One recall on braking system, but dealer fixed at no cost and at a down time during the wet spring. Type of User: Homeowner 10-50 Acres Location: USA WI I also considered buying: Bobcat CT120, Cub Cadet 5234D

"My family purchased a 240 acre farm (75% wooded) in central Alabama. The pastures and roads had not been maintained in quite some time, so we began a search for a tractor/loader combo. We purchased a 5055D with 19 hours on it, and had a new 512 front end loader installed before delivery. We payed about $20K for it, a six foot rotary cutter, and 6ft box blade as a package. Considering what we got, it was a great deal. Daily maintenance is a breeze. The hydraulic/transmission level has a sight gauge on the rear of the tractor, the oil and coolant levels can be checked from the ground, and the battery is in a easily accessible location. Operators station layout is very good. The suspended seat is comfortable and adjustable for height and weight, and visibility is better than I expected with a loader installed. There is plenty of legroom and seat width (I'm a big guy, 6'2 and built like an offensive lineman). Controls are within easy reach, although the loader control limits seat accessibility from the right side. The tractor cranks right up, even in the cold (mind you it is Alabama and my idea of cold is anything below 40 degrees). Steering is effortless, even with a bucket full of dirt and the brakes are very sound. The tractor is a bit loud at PTO speed, so I wear hearing protection. 3 point hitch control is quick and responsive, and the remote hydraulics work well. I pulled a Bush Hog 2610L (10ft) mower with it through some pretty tough cutting. In ideal conditions, the mower is a bit big for the tractor, but it did its job at a good pace and without issue. We figured it uses right around 3 gallons per hour when at PTO speed. The 512 loader is a great add on. I would consider this a "light-duty" loader, but its still excellent for moving the debris and material that we have used it for. I recommend water in the rear tires for traction and ballast if you are going to add the loader. The loader is fast and responsive. It crowds a pile of material and rolls back quickly, making full buckets an easy task. Considering what we have in this machine and what it returns to us, I give it 5 stars."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Powerful, responsive, & good quality for the price. Cons: Accessiblity from the right side because of loader controls, not 4WD. Type of User: Homeowner 100+ Acres Location: USA AL I also considered buying:

"I have been a John Deere owner for about 10 years. I had a JD790 MFD for 9 years. It was a great tractor. I sold it last year and bought a bigger 5055D. I like the 5055D, because it has more power, a turbo engine, more flexible operation, more platform room, more lifting capacity and a more comfortable ride. I like the Green and Yellow paint, too. I have only had a couple of issues with the tractor. The bolts that hold the heat shield onto the exhaust stack loosened up and one fell out the first day at my farm, which caused the heat shield to produce a irritating buzz. I went to the dealer and bought new fasteners for the shield and tightened the other up. That problem was fixed. I was on the back part of my farm, moving a bunch of brush with the 5055D tractor and 512 FEL. The tractor had approx. 30 hours on it. I shut it off for a few minutes to talk to my wife, and when I went to get back on it and start it up, the tractor would not crank - zero...nada...nothing. I checked the battery and connections. They were good. I checked the fuse panel. Everything good. I was missing half of my lighting and safety system, also. Hmmmmm. I called my local dealer that I had bought the tractor from and they came out and took the unit back to their shop. They found a main harness connector had a faulty electrical connection up inside the tractor. Repaired, of course, under warranty. I did have to pay to have it hauled to the dealership and back to the farm, though. I have an MX7 Brush cutter for the tractor and it is a simple breeze to cut fields with this cutter and tractor combo. The old 790 had a 513 brush cutter, which would take forever to cut anything dense down. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and plan to keep this 5055D tractor the rest of my days on this planet."

"This is my first tractor and I'm not much of a writer so this review will be pretty limited. As I get more seat time I may update. Overall, I am very pleased with the tractor. The fit and finish are very good, it seems strong (so far) and starts the first time every time. The control placement seems very natural to me and are easy to understand and use."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Everything so far is a pro. As I get more comfortable, I will try to point out specifics. Cons: The only con so far is that the FEL control joystick interferes with mounting the tractor from the right side. My fat gut cannot get on the tractor from the right side because the joystick is in the way. Type of User: Homeowner 10-50 Acres Location: USA TX I also considered buying:
