"This JD655 with Westendorf TA55 front-end loader has made it possible to handle snow removal and heavy lifting chores in western Maine. It's small enough to fit in my garage, yet powerful enough to move mountains of snow and lift boulders out of holes. The tractor is an old girl, but rugged and reliable. The loader is the same, but getting hydraulic hoses with the metric fittings it requires was disgustingly difficult. Proprietary fittings have to be ordered from Westendorf. But... I love the combo and love having the ability to do things myself instead of having to depend on others."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Mid-size fits in garage, reliability Cons: None on the tractor - I love it Type of User: Homeowner 1-10 Acres Location: USA ME I also considered buying:

Model year: 1987 Date Purchased: 2012-08-15 Number of Hours: 5hrs on rebuild

"I was given this tractor by a friend who had forgotten he had it. It broke down in the woods and he went and bought a new one and forgot about this one until the land-owner where it was told him it had to be removed. He text me and said if you go get it you can have it. He had just had the engine and tranny rebuilt, only 5hrs. on it. I went and got the battery out of it, charged it and the next day drove it on my trailer. What was broke was a hyd. hose for the bucket. You can imagine the paint after 2yrs. in the woods but not like that now. And I did have to rebuild the front wheel drive but not a big deal, I had no problem finding parts. I have since built a set of forks that have the same movement as the bucket and also built a boom that attaches to the same frame as the forks. I built a set of disc from 2 ATV disc and attached them together. I have fabbed a harrow that my turning plow can be attached to. I am in the middle of building a scrapping blade for it and think I'll be done with attachments."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Easy start, easy to maintain. Cons: Narrow wheel base. Type of User: Homeowner 1-10 Acres Location: USA NC I also considered buying:

"I only paid $3200 for the unit in 2006 with ~700 hours. The mower deck seems to be the most preblematic. It just needs service."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Very manueverable. Cons: Short wheelbase requires a lot of counterweight when using a loader. Type of User: Homeowner 1-10 Acres Location: USA OH I also considered buying:

"This was my first tractor purchase bigger than a Sears type lawn tractor. I did not bring a mechanic and did not know how to check out the engine and trans. Well $5,000.00 dollars in repairs later I am still waiting for my machine. My advice, if you are new to these types of tractors is to buy from a reputable dealer or have a diesel tractor mechanic give the vehicle the once over. These machines are great but very costly. Maybe I should have listened to the wife."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: When it is fixed, it should be great. Cons: Can be hidden abuse and thus costly! Type of User: Homeowner 1-10 Acres Location: USA PA I also considered buying:

"It's a good little Tractor I picked it up used with 250hrs on it in perfect condition. The 16HP engine is too small for the size and it struggles at time when mowing up hill. 4wd works great. Bucket loader works great. But again it could use at least a 20-24hp engine. I changed oil twice a yr. with JD plus 50 and JD filters. Usually less than 30hrs. I had to pull the engine and have it completely rebuilt at 650hrs. I fixed it because I'm attached to the thing. Also have 955 Engine works great has 1800+hrs on it and it runs great. 955 has plenty of power for it's size."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Mower and bucket loader work well. Engine neede to be rebuilt at 600hrs. Oil changed with JD plus 50 twice a years less than 50hrs. Cons: PTO and Cat 5 hitch too small for only the smallest devices. Type of User: Homeowner 10-50 Acres Location: USA NJ I also considered buying:

"Bought this about 3 -3/2 years ago. It has been the best machine for my needs. After I bought it, I sold my zero turn. It may take me 20 minutes longer, but goodbye back aches. I love this tractor. It is 16hp with hydro. It will really surprise you. I have pulled a 4 foot bush hog through stuff over the hood and she just keeps going. She was abused before I got her--being left outside, and the only time she has ever been wet since is an occasional bath. One day I am going to paint her. Right now just mow till I get the time."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Great Machine. Cons: May be under powered for big jobs, but for 15 acres or less is perfect. Type of User: Homeowner 1-10 Acres Location: USA TN I also considered buying:
