"I love this tractor as it has been very reliable. The only problems that I've had is the ignition coil, and routine belt and blade replacement. Otherwise, this thing has been great. I'm looking at a second tractor, but newer John Deere's don't seem to have the quality anymore, so I'm looking to buy another used one similar to this one."
"Review."
"My father purchased this mower new in 98. I used it a couple of summers while home from school to earn money mowing others' yards. My father is not into maintenance or being delicate with things. With that said, this mower still runs really well for being 14 years old. I recently received this mower from my dad since he was buying a new one. It has not been serviced in 5 years, but still runs well. I mowed my yard once, then replaced filters, fluids and blades. Runs like a NEW mower now. Love the transmission in this thing and the freedom deck does an excellent job mulching."
"I bought this from the original owner a few months ago. It's my first John Deere. I also own a Wheel Horse 212-6 w 37" deck(bought in 1987). My comparisons will be based on these two machines. BUILD QUALITY: The WH is built like a tank! The JD seems a bit less sturdy, but is acceptable considering the 14 year difference. CUTTING ABILITY: I love the Freedom deck, and even at 2-blade 42" versus 2-blade 37", the JD does a better job and leaves a nicer looking cut path. ENGINE Strength: WH has a 12.5hp Kawasaki, the JD has Kohler 15hp. I Love the Kawasaki engine. It has plenty of reserve torque when getting into tall/thick grass, but is much louder than the Kohler, which has sufficient power and seems to sip from the gas tank. FEATURES: WH has an electric (flipswitch) PTO and does not require an over-ride button when cutting in reverse (somewhat annoying on the JD due to its' location lower left of steering wheel). However, I have been experiencing electrical problems with the WH so I have no problem with the shift handle PTO on the JD. The WH has it's 6 spd shifter on the steering column, but I prefer the hydrostatic drive on the JD. The turning radius is better on the JD also. SUMMARY: The Wheel Horse has given me 23 years of service, so there is not much to complain about! The Deere LT 155 is not tank-like in build, but does a better cutting job. Let's hope I can get at least 10 more years out of it, and if so will be a very happy Deere owner."
