L5740 Kubota
Love my Grand L5740
Model Year: 2008

Moved up to this tractor from a B7800 when I started feeding haylage. Tractor can do everything I need on my 20 acres! No problems with it at all - starts easy - plenty of power - comfortable. Added a Bradco MD2 backhoe, 14" 2-bottom plow, 5' box scraper, subsoiler, 3-pt 65 gal sprayer, 5' tiller, 5' bush hog, 72" discs, QD pallet forks, QD bale spear. Everything to do about anything I need. This tractor handles all with no problems. Filled tires with beet juice, built an 800 lb counter weight for the 3-pt. Quality in the build of the machine, all the bells and whistles work well. Would definitely purchase again!

Pros: Operating ease , power, comfort, low noise level, 4wd, quality
Cons: Tool box too small!

L5740 Kubota
Kubota L5740
Model Year: 2010

This tractor replaced a 1954 Ford Jubilee that worked well the past 9 years. I was getting ready to purchase a Deere model when I talked to a Deere mechanic and I threw out the word "Kubota". The look in his eye when he said "I can't badmouth a Kubota" said volumes when it comes to small tractors. I own a Deere X500 mower that I'm very pleased with. The quality and price made the decision to go with Kubota. I've put 12 hours on the machine since it arrived. The strength and performance of the machine--even though I test drove and lifted a few things with one--is better than expected. How I operated around here without a grapple makes me want to nearly cry when I see how much time it would have saved me but raising kids takes money and it wasn't there, so glad I'm I have it now. My Anbo grapple ran $3350 delivered, 66 inches wide, teeth 6 inches apart, made with superior steel and weighs about 860 lbs. It was expensive, yes but it's the best money I've spent in my life for a piece of farm equipment other than on this new tractor. I got more done in three hours than I've done in two days with the old stuff. You can use those jaws to pick up almost anything: bales, trees, rocks. There's no limit to it's usefulness here on the farm. I think dealers could make a few bucks marketing this excellent addition to the 5740 because it handles it so well. As useful and even more necessary than a bucket. Fuel consumption is better than expected. 12 hours of operation and I'm down to about 1/3 of a tank. Without a doubt, they designed this baby to work all day and not run out of fuel--excellent thinking. FEL is so strong that if grapple is stuck on tree roots or equivalent that it will lift the rear of the tractor off the ground with 1300 lb mower on back and two sets of rear wheel weights. The strength of the three point is great. It handles 1300 lb mower just great. You just have to ride the 3 pt control over rough ground. I can trim right up to the edge of the creek with it slightly elevated. I LOVE the HST for smooth, slow operation around all obstacles. I'm glad I went with HST versus a manual gear tractor. The cruise control lever (for cutting hayfield, etc.) is also well thought out. My only critique so far is I would prefer a PTO lever versus a yellow knob when I'm looking backwards and the owners manual was designed for a 5th grader. Example: "Do not operate tractor on slope or hill to steep for safe operation". Still burns me. Kubota and others could do much better giving basic weight and balance information. Today I had to change back and forth a couple of times with the grapple and bucket. It was a piece of cake. You don't dread having to change a piece of equipment. A few minutes and you're on your way to do a different job. Thanks for the heads up and bleeding down the 3rd function valve on the grapple hydraulics with the key on. It would have taken much longer had it not been pointed out. This tractor exceeds my expectations. I did not expect this much strength with a compact tractor. It's well designed right down to the intellipanel that tells me to push in the 3 speed clutch to start. I love my canopy which keeps the sun off my head! There is very little not to like on this tractor at this point. It can lift and mow at the same time and has the power to do it all. We'll see how it performs over the years.

Pros: Many.
Cons: Pto knob takes getting used to when looking backwards at implement.

L5740 Kubota
L5740 Review
Model Year: 2010

I switched from a L3010 open air to a L5740 w/cab. My only regret is that I did not do it sooner. Living in Northern WI there is plenty of snow to move. The cab and the 6' front mounted blower powered by a mid mount PTO make the process a treat. The tractor has plenty of power for a "for-fun" farmer. It uses considerably more fuel than the L3010, but that is to be expected with 2X the horsepower. L5740 does everything that I would expect and more. The auto throttle advance is wonderful, easy to engage, and matches RPM to need when moving between foodplots & on the road. Added a rear mounted camera w/screen for easy implement monitoring and visibility when backing up. Added a loader, 72" front mount Kubota blower, 3pt 72" tiller, 3pt rotary mower, and pallet forks. I built a 3pt ballast with a cut down 55 gal plastic barrel filled with cement (about $850). Works well to keep the rear end on the ground. Kubota does not disappoint with the L5740.

Pros: Everything except 2 cons.
Cons: Ride, windshield wiper on front does not reach top of windshield - small inconvenience if you are taller with forward visibility.

L5740 Kubota
L5740 with Cab
Model Year: 2011

So far it's been a very nice tractor. I had field and turf tires on my L4310 and let the dealer talk me into R4's on the L5740 and I'm not happy with them. They make the tractor sit too high and ride ruff as hell. The 5740 is missing the small keepers on the 3-point lift arms to store the pins in when you remove an implement. Another problem is the location of the remote spool outlets on the loader. It's on the right side of the tractor instead of the drivers side where all attachments are located such as a grapple or 4-in-one. The hoses are always too short from any implement you try to use.

Pros: Quiet cab-ac/heat is great - plenty of power.
Cons: Too tall or top heavy - eats twice the fuel as my L4310.

L5740 Kubota
So Far So Good
Model Year: 2010

Enjoying the help. Learned the easy way- no danger or damage that 4 wheel drive is necessary on hills. It will take off like free wheeling down a slope in 2 wheel drive!

Pros: Plenty of power for us.
Cons: Two wheel drive will "freewheel down a slope."

Traded L4330 for L5740
Model Year: 2011

Power is much more that my 4330 that I had for five years. Improvements in features are great especially two-speed HST auto throttle, and hat settings.

Pros: Quality and power, quietness.
Cons: Price.

L5740 Kubota
Kubota L5740 Meets All Expectations
Model Year: 2008

This tractor is used for severe duty brush chopping as well as for firewood and log skidding. It is set up with a shop built brush cage, belly guard and grill guard like the L3430 which can be seen on the Forest Savers web site. This is the highest horsepower Kubota tractor available with a hydrostatic transmission which is a big asset for all the variable speeds and forward/reverse movement required when brush chopping in the woods.

Pros: Plenty of power and very responsive.
Cons: Uses plenty of fuel.

L5740 Kubota
Excellent Tractor (I Have the Cab Model)
Model Year: 2009

Purchased this tractor new in 2009. Saved for approximately 5 years to get this tractor. Purchased it with FEL, 7' Land Pride heavy duty rear blade, & Woods BH90-X frame mount backhoe. Have since purchased 3-point heavy duty post hole digger, 7' box blade, 14" single bottom moldboard plow, 6" heavy duty rotary tiller, 3-point chipper, 7' heavy duty (york style) rake. I have used the tractor to put in over 200' of drainage pipe, rip out small stumps, move a lot of dirt, plow/till a garden area, plow snow, maintain approximately 385' of gravel driveway, among numerous other never ending jobs. This tractor has PLENTY of power in a nice compact package, is very easy to operate and maintain. I just love this tractor. Hopefully it will last me forever. Bought it new through Greenhill Farms outside of Meadville, PA. Couldn't have been happier with the dealer.

Pros: Excellent power, awesome hydrostatic transmission, TONS of heat produced (cab model), great air conditioner for when it's really hot out, nice fit and finish.
Cons: None.

L5740 Kubota
Kubota 5740 Cab Tractor
Model Year: 2012

I replaced my old Ford 8N that did not cut it in northern Minnesota to remove large amount of snow during occasional use. After extensive search and considerations, I was deciding between the John Deere 4720 and Kubota L5740. Two very capable tractors for my needs, some had advantages for the Deere and some for Kubota. At the end of the day, the major factors for Deere 4720 were: self leveling loader, sealed cab and better side to side links at the 3 point hitch. The things I liked better on the Kubota were: loader structurally tied to the rear axle rather than the gear case, having the skid steer loader attachment with appropriately sized bucket (Deere had that as an option, but bucket too large), larger cab, external actuation for the 3PT hitch and telescoping links on the 3PT. The final deciding factor was the dealer service capability and distance to my location. The John Deere dealers were really not interested in selling a tractor, many times the John Deere products were just another side business in addition to motorcycles and ATVs. Their product knowledge was also lacking. Even at that, my service for the Kubota is over 100 miles away. The primary purpose for my tractor is snow removal. I got the LandPride 74" 3PT rear facing snow blower (SB1574). In addition, I kept the old 8' rear blade and a home made V plow that my son adapted to the front loader skid steer interface. Having almost one winter of snow removal done, I ended up using the rear blade for most of the first part of the winter. When snow got piled up along the sides too high and it started pushing the tractor sideways, I used the V plow to widen the driveway (really an old logging road). This used just about all the tractor power and I managed to bog it down. The last couple of snow removal events took the snow blower. I have to use it some more to get a better feel for that one, as this was done in the dark and in a hurry and I didn't get to pay too much attention to the process. Results were quite good. I like the rear blade for the nice smooth finish it left behind. No tracks to disturb it and so the driveway ends up smoother in the winter than the rocky dirt road full of pot holes in the summer. Starting in cold temps was another reason I went with the Kubota. Deere dealer would not commit to any temperature at which the tractor should start. Kubota told me that they have experience starting it to about 0°F. I was able to start it at -10°F, but one morning when it was -26, the starter would not turn the engine over on the first try and I didn't have the heart to try it twice. I plugged the 400 W block heater in the next day (-25°F) for 30 minutes and it started okay. No matter what, the engine sputters for the first minute or so when temps are below zero. Blowing snow demonstrated very clearly that I will never regret getting the cab. Heat worked fine enough even in those low temp conditions and not getting covered in frigid powder snow still makes me smile. I also use the front loader for snow removal around the house and am very happy with the reach and height of the loader. It makes great nice piles of snow. Overall, I am very pleased with the tractor and will update when I get more hours and experience with the "dirt" and driveway maintenance in the summer. One of the tasks is to pull large rocks from the ground. I've got forks for that so far, but if anyone has good ideas or experience, I am interested to learn.

Pros: Power, cab, 3PT hitch capacity, hydraulic low/high speed switch, starting in the cold.
Cons: I would like better side to side restraints on the 3PT and float option like the Deere.

L5740 Kubota
Kubota L5740
Model Year: 2007

I bought this tractor a few years ago and I am definitely a Kubota fan! I owned smaller JDs and upgraded to a Kubota B2900 and then to this Kubota L5740. I own 50 Acres of Hard Woods, 1/4 mile long driveway and over 2 miles of trails. This tractor does everything I need it to and more. I do wish the loader had more lift capacity as it's around 1900 lbs. I often run into very large logs/water tanks I move around, but beside that it is a great tractor without any issues so far.

Pros: Large tractor with a small footprint.
Cons: Lift capacity.
