"I am very pleased with the machine. I use it on hills and the stability is excellent. It has plenty of power in low or medium. The loader is strong and you have to have a counter-weight or the rear will lift up."

Kubota MX 5100 Cracked Hydraulic Housing Twice

"There is a faulty part design in the MX 500 hydraulic housing that is made of cast iron and has broken twice in 324 hours, costing $1700 to fix. This part supports implements and the total weight, and should be made of steel. Kubota says it's caused by the top link getting in a bind going up hills with implements, but I live east of Dallas Texas in the flattest part of country there is, so if it breaks on me, it won't work for you."

Pros: Decent price for size Cons: Part design flaw Type of User: Homeowner 10-50 Acres Location: USA TX I also considered buying:

"We recently moved out of the city onto 20 acres of rolling, wooded pasture about an hour from Dallas. My main need was mowing the 20 acres, drilling post holes and clearing brush. I started looking at used but the financing is poor and the prices are high. I looked at Chinese/Korean tractors like TYM and Kioti but the dealers come and go so support is so/so. Even on Chinese the price savings is not that much. So for owning something a lifetime it just wasn't worth the 2-3k savings to risk it. The old guys said to go Green or Orange so I met the local Kubota dealer and made a deal with him. Deen Implement is a long standing Kubota dealer with great service. I started looking at the L 3800 and 4600 units. He explained that the 5100 had much nicer features and was only a grand more than the 4600. I am glad I paid the extra money for the 5100. You can rarely have too much tractor. I like the larger tires, turbocharger, bigger loader and the sliding lower 3pt arms. I wish I had gotten the 7-8ft finish mower I think I have the power to pull it. the 6ft mower takes a long time to do the acreage. I have used the 4wd to push up some trees and brush piles. I feel like I have plenty of weight and power. I would not have been nearly as satisfied with the 3800 or 4600 tractors. I went ahead and bought sooner than I was ready to because the tier four units were coming out. They cost 10-15% more and had the regen, DPF etc that I did not want any part of. It will eat some fuel when working and the radiator screen requires cleaning every few hours when mowing which surprises me, I would think they would engineer a tractor to do a days works without shutting down for maintenance. Kubota is solid so far."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Power, reliability, value dealer support Cons: Eats the fuel with the turbo spooling, requires frequent radiator cleaining when mowing in the summer Type of User: Homeowner 10-50 Acres Location: USA TX I also considered buying: TYM 503, Kioti DK45SE HST

Great tractor except for problem disconnecting stabilizer arms from bushogg

"I took delivery of my Kubota Mx5100 in December 2013. I didn't begin using it until the spring of 2014. Everything about this tractor was great until time to disconnect the bushogg. The large pins that connect the main stabilizer arms appear to be "frozen." I've used grease, a large hammer and as much strength as I can muster. The pins will move only so far. No one has been able to provide a solution other than grease and force. I cannot use the tractor now for all of the other tasks it was bought for."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Well designed for owner maintnance and easy use Cons: Stabilizer arms very difficult to disconnect from attachment Type of User: Homeowner 10-50 Acres Location: USA TN I also considered buying:

My Kubota

"As a new acreage owner, I searched all the local dealerships for a tractor to help build a new acreage. I started out looking at 30+ hp units, and priced out every mfg. My search led me to a choice between a New Holland 35hp model, and the Kubota MX5100 HST, which I bought. The dealer was prepared to put the package together for under 50k Cdn, including a LA844 FEL, BH92 Backhoe, Land Pride 72" rough cut mower, 72" tiller, and a 84" box blade. All of this and 60 mos no interest financing. Although the dealership has not been very supportive, I am very pleased with my choice of equipment. Thus far, I have 290 hours in the seat, with 130 hours on the backhoe, trenching in 2100 feet of water line around the perimeter of my 7.5 acre plot. I have planted 800+ trees in the shelter belt, tilled the 50x50 foot garden area, and mowed the place a dozen times. Living in Alberta, we get more than our fair share of winter, so I spend a lot of time moving snow. My only regret: not opting for a full heated cab. Maybe I can add that in later as funds allow. The only issues I've encountered are: 3-pt. stabilizer arms bending, and a problem with the crankcase vent freezing off and over pressuring the crankcase enough to spit the dipstick out into a snow bank (found it). Shortly after that incident, I discovered that my oil level was rising, due to excess fuel in the crankcase, (still under investigation). Overall, I have found the MX5100 to be a well built, sufficiently powered tractor, for the small acreage owner. I have tried numerous times to push it to the limit of its power, but as yet, it hasn't failed to perform even once. I do admit, though, that I rarely run the engine past 2K rpm on any job, and just let Kubota do the hard work! So far, that's my story. Happy tractoring, Docone"

Pros: Ease of operation, plenty of power. Cons: No cab. Type of User: Homeowner 1-10 Acres Location: CND OT I also considered buying:

"As a newbie, building an acreage, the MX5100 was a good choice. I shopped all the ag dealers in my area, and it came down to a coin toss between NH and Kubota. Dollar for dollar, the Kubota beats all. I got the LA844 loader, BH92 backhoe, 72" m rough cut, 72" tiller, and 84" box blade (all Land Pride). This tractor has more than exceeded my expectations. I trenched in more than 2100 ft of waterline for my shelter belt trees, to an average depth of over 8-ft., in just over 130 hours. I mow 7 acres 3 or 4 times each season, and am now building 600-ft. of road on the property. This spring we put in a half an acre of garden, and next project will be a 2 ponds and creek between them at either end of the property. Being in Alberta, we get plenty of winter, and moving snow can take all day, or sometimes all weekend. My only regret, not buying a Cab! My bad!"

Pros: Power, and ease of operation. Cons: I didn't opt for a cab. Type of User: Homeowner 1-10 Acres Location: CND OT I also considered buying:

"I owned a Kubota L3000 DT for 12 years and just purchased the MX5100 because I needed more power and I liked the additional features. Some of my land here in Vermont is fairly hilly and the MX5100 feels much more stable due to the larger footprint. I am extremely pleased so far, it is a totally different experience after having used the much smaller L3000 for years. I had considered the MX4700 but for the small difference in cost and additional features I am glad that I went with the 5100."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Build quality, power, great value for the money. Cons: Fuel consumption as compared to previous tractor (L3000). Type of User: Homeowner 10-50 Acres Location: USA VT I also considered buying: Kioti DK45SE

"I would just like to take this time to quickly comment on my new purchase and I am so far pleased with this tractor, especially the loader capacity, I have had a few other compact tractors which would barley lift the loader arms and bucket, this one I specked out for this very feature and very impressed."

"I really haven't owned this tractor long enough to give a honest and fair review. It is very user friendly and I feel as time goes by, I will be more familiar with the tractor. My wife absolutely loves the HSTand when she first got on I thought she would make a couple of circles and get off. Boy was I wrong. She saw how easy it was to operate the FEL and took off to a burn pile that had started to get pretty high. I couldn't stop her, she cleaned up the whole dang pile. When she got off, she smiled and said, "nice". I am concerned about the 3-pt hitch, it seems to jerk when you raise it slowly. I haven't had a chance to use my box blade yet so I see how that turns out. I did raise and lower it at the dealer with nothing attached and it was smooth. When I attached my box blade at home and started to raise it, it was very jerky. That is why I only gave it 3 stars in performance. A tractor performance in my opinion is only as good as the work it can " perform " and most of the performance comes from the implements you attach to it and the majority are attached to the 3 pt hitch. I am totally perplexed as to why a company like Kubota would allow this obvious and totally fixable flaw to exist."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Everything but 3-pt. hitch. Cons: None except the 3-pt. hitch. Type of User: Homeowner 10-50 Acres Location: USA OK I also considered buying: John Deere 5055E
