"Have had my Massey Ferguson 2625 for 9 years now and have had it in the shop 3 times. Compare that to my old MS 235 which still runs, works well, and starts every time I turn the key. The first problem with the 2625 was during hay season the starter solenoid overheated, melting the plastic sheath and causing the plunger to be intermittently stuck in the ON position. It also caused the fuse to blow several times. Pretty scary! I took the starter solenoid apart and reamed the plastic sheath. A few years later Massey Ferguson recalled the solenoid but it was a bit late for me. The next problem was that the tractor would sputter and stop after about 30 minutes in the field. After resting it would limp along for awhile. New fuel filters didn't work. I emptied the fuel tank and removed the tank-to-filter line and found lots of gunk inside. I later found that all diesel grows algae, especially in a partially empty tank. Not the manufacturer's fault but it was pretty frustrating. Never had that problem with my MS 235 that has a deeper tank on top. The 2625 has a vary shallow tank on top and is probably more prone to condensation when not full. The last problem was that the 2625's power take-off just quit after 10 minutes of cutting hay. The 3-point arms and loader hydraulics were gone too. The hydro-static drive/steering still worked okay. After 3 weeks of diagnosis and discovery, I found sheered pins on the clutch plate. They held a disc that connected to the outer shaft powering hydraulic pump. I had to break the tractor in two to find the problem. Granted, there was no prior history of this type of failure but still not a pleasant surprise during hay time. The build may be old school but my old-school MS 235 hasn't had this problem."

"I have not had one problem with my 2625 since I bought it. I bought this tractor to work not for a show piece. It’s been used to dig up and clear bush with the loader, move down trees, haul 1000 to1200 lb round bales and mow pastures. My tractor has to work and this one does. I get about 8 hours on a tank of diesel. This is my third MF, first two were the old MF 35s and my 2625 has been the perfect tractor for my use."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: I would purchase this tractor again. Cons: Would like to see the fuel tank moved to the back, but it's not an issue. Type of User: Homeowner 50-100 Acres Location: USA TX I also considered buying:

"I bought this tractor over a month ago. I did a lot of research before buying this model. After hours of research and not many reviews, I decided to move forward on the purchase. I heard this tractor had some issues from the start of production. One was the engine balancer, another was not wanting to start when cold. The recall had been done on the balancer when I bought it and the tractor seems to run fine. As far as it not wanting to crank when cold outside, I have not experienced that. This tractor has the perfect amount of power for me. The 2615 wasn't enough and the 2635 was too much. Like the other reviewer stated this tractor is a bit old school, but that's what I like the most about it. It does have a low center of gravity and does just fine bush hogging the very steep hills on our farm. The only fault I have is the paint on the tractor is blistering in a few places. This is due to rust underneath the paint. I think the quality of metal prepping was very poor before they painted this tractor. Other than that, this is a very good tractor in my opinion. "

Pros: Power for the tractor size. Cons: Paint. Type of User: Homeowner 50-100 Acres Location: USA VA I also considered buying:

"I'll begin by admitting the 2625 is not as polished as similarly equipped tractors. It's a bit old school, partially straddle the trans, gas tank above the engine, mechanical everything except the IPTO. However, and there are very few MFWD 50+ pto hp tractors with a synchronized shuttle transmission for even close to the same price. Not that I wouldn't love to own either a NH WM-65 or Deere 5065M, but I just couldn't justify the extra 10,000. I have a very competent and close Massey dealer who gave me a heck of a deal and had the 0% for 72 month financing, so the 2625 came home. I've lived with this tractor for a little more than two years at the time of this review and have been very happy so far. The only issue I had was the engine balancer was recalled. The local dealer came out, picked it up and repaired at no cost, which was the only reason I rated build quality and reliability at 4 and not 5 (may be a little unfair). I've made hay, brush hogged, moved tons of dirt, gravel, brush and bales. The 8x8 Shuttle has been flawless. Hydraulics and power have been phenomenal. The 2625 has a low center of gravity which has worked very well on some of my steeper ditch banks. With ballast in the tires and the loader, it scales at just over 8000#, which is pretty good for it's relatively small size. I have read that others have had every problem imaginable for an internal combustion wheeled off-highway vehicle; Everything from weak breaks, hydraulic failures, drive shaft problems, etc. I can say that with over 350 hours in the seat, I have seen none of these problems. In the interest of fairness, I've found a couple things that are not so great. The 2625 is a hard starter when it's very cold, especially if you let it sit for a while. Not that it will not start right up when it cranks, it just seems like the battery does not have enough charge to crank fast. Keeping it on a trickle charger and/or using the block heater seams to solve this. The second issue is this tractor is loud. Not much you can do about this as it is a non turbo and not a good idea to convert to horizontal if used for haying as I do. Last, the 2625 has it's tank in the center of the hood above the engine. That's great for keeping diesel warm in the winter, but not so great to fill when the loader is attached. Even with it's few quirks, overall a solid tractor and good performer. I believe you will not find a better value in it's class. "

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Excellent performance for price, excellent fuel economy. Cons: Hard starting in the cold, poor fuel tank placement, loud. Type of User: Homeowner 50-100 Acres Location: USA MO I also considered buying:

"I am on my second MF2625. I live 4 miles from the dealer driving the tractor home after purchase it overheats. I let it cool for a while and poked home. The next day I checked the water it was full. I put my spear on the loader and tried to feed bales it over heats driving thru the field. The dealer looks at it and says it needs new radiator hoses. I feed 7 bales that day all about 250 feet from where they were stored took almost a tank of fuel. I put my spear on back and come back and its on the ground the 3 pt crept down. I was in contact with the dealer and AGCO. They wanted to take it back to the dealer for work. I did it was gone a month all of first cutting hay. When I got it back no change. It had no power, overheats, 3pt creeps down in 10 mins or less, paint and decals pealing off, guzzels fuel, keeps shucking joystick valves ( it is now Oct. and I am on my 5th valve) I have talked to the dealer AGCO reps customer hotline and several higher ups. I meet with the dealer and reps to discuss the tractor and before hand they said they wanted to trade my 2625 for a 2650hd when I meet with them they could not back peddle fast enough. We have a list of 30 things currently wrong with this tractor. There are several recalls such as the hour meter running fast (I can vouch for) lights not working (Mine didn't from the dealership). Gasket around the fuel gauge so on and so on. Anybody looking to buy one of these tractors save your money."
