Mower Deck is Disconcerting

3.5

Model year: 2008 Date Purchased: 2013-11-14 Number of Hours: 400

"The mower deck is disconcerting to say the least. I wish that I would have given it more thought when purchasing. The deck needs to be a drive on design. I hurt my back wrestling with it to attach it and I consider myself to be in good physical shape. The discharge fell off and I have welded it twice. It is now useless since it cannot be welded again. An optional rubber discharge would be a nice option."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Easy to operate, priced accordingly. Cons: Rear marker lights are mounted to create a blind spot. Type of User: Homeowner 1-10 Acres Location: CND OT I also considered buying:

"This tractor has done everything asked of it and then some. I had a few problems with quality issues, most notably some of the hydraulic lines. When they failed and were replaced, it was very easy to see the quality difference---the replacement hoses (local hydraulic shop) were obviously much heavier duty. I also had an annoying issue with the ground strap/cable being a bit too short on this model and year. It eventually failed due to normal use & vibration. I understand that this cable was made longer in subsequent years. Later versions of this tractor had a much better dashboard set-up. The gauges on the 2300 series are exposed to snow, which makes them impossible to see during blowing, and there is no provision for a light on the tachometer. I also had to add a temp gauge, as this model came without one. Overall, however, I've been extremely happy with its performance, whether it be snow blowing (front-mount blower), digging with the backhoe, mowing with the mid-mount mower deck, or lifting & hauling with the front-end loader."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Small size, fits in tight places; surprising strength in a SCUT; very frugal with fuel. Cons: Some ancillary items could have been better, such as a longer ground strap, better quality hydraulic hoses, better dashboard. Type of User: Homeowner 1-10 Acres Location: USA NH I also considered buying: Kubota BX2230

"Bought the tractor used with 350 hrs on it. I mainly use it around the cottage for yard work and landscaping. It's been very reliable to date. The hydaulics could be stronger, but generally I'm very happy with the machine."

"Excellent machine. I did a tremendous amount of research here on Tractorbynet as well as looking at several makes and models in the new and used market via dealers and individuals. The information I found here is literally priceless. I was both prepared and educated in my decision. I mainly considered 3 brands in the class I was looking at. John Deere, Kubota and Massey Ferguson. After educating myself as well as spending seat time in all 3, I chose the Massey based upon an very good product at an affordable price as well as the quicker response time on the hydraulics and integrated backhoe. I chose used vs new only because I found the tractor I purchased at an ridiculously low price due to the passing of the owner. Otherwise, I likely would've purchased new."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Very well built. Backhoe is VERY strong and completely integrated as part of the tractor. BH is easily removed after the first 2-3 times of getting the hang of it. Lower RPMs for PTO and Hydraulics are fantastic. Hydraulics are surprisingly fast as compared to other brands. Cons: Most of my cons have already been changed with the newer model years so remember I am referring to a 2008. The seat is the weakest part of the unit...really just aggravating when turning it around for the B.H. The rocker pedal for the hydro-stat forward and backwards is a little cumbersome (has been changed on the 2013). The front-end tie-rod boots/dust covers seem poorly designed. I live on a steep lot and the tractor get light on the front-end with the BH attached. I am going to add a couple weights to the front bumper. Type of User: Homeowner 1-10 Acres Location: USA MO I also considered buying: Kubota B2410, John Deere 2320

She Does a Lot

"I originally bought this tractor to maintain a 300 ft. driveway on a 3-acre property. Two years later, I am managing a woodlot on a 144-acre property. I would've bought a bigger tractor for the current property, but she had done most of what I have asked her to do. She accepted a 5-ft brush cutter and a timber winch. Loading the tires made a huge difference in her performance. My biggest problem was that driving her through a 12-acre field while mowing allowed grass to wind up so tightly around her drive shaft that it got inside the transmission (ruining the seal) and plugging the filter, resulting in a 2-month search for a seal and a $2000 repair bill. Service in my area my been horrible. It took my dealer 2-months to find a $12 replacement seal for the tractor. Design-wise, the location of the oil filter on the bottom of the tractor makes it easy to access, but exposes it to potential damage, especially given the relatively low ground clearance. I drive it in the woods reluctantly, for fear of hitting a stump and trading the oil filter off."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Does a lot for a little tractor. Cons: Lack of clearance; Not built to work in deep grass. Type of User: Homeowner 100+ Acres Location: USA NH I also considered buying:
