1455V- Great Tractor For Me!

"I don't think the 1455s or 1455Vs are very common, but I found a used V that was half the price of a new LS or Branson 45-horsepower tractor. The V is for value, which is to say it's de-contented. It has no power shuttle, no tilt steering, no draft control, no optional rear remotes, no shields to the sides of the operator station, and on early models at least, no folding ROPS. My tractor sat outside the first 13 years of it's life, so most of the paint is faded, peeled, or gone; but other than that it's in good shape. It has PLENTY of power, and starts and runs nice. I turned the idle down from about 900 RPM's to about 700, which seems to be more appropriate to my ear. Compared to new tractors (2016), this one has noticeably more wheelbase, and does not have a turbo. It does have one cup holder on a fender. The look is very "utility" oriented and is similar to a Branson. The weight is similar to 40-55 horsepower tractors. The 1040 loader that was used on the 1455 is a beast! The loader arms stick up above the hood quite a bit more than on a modern tractor, but it also lifts a foot higher than anything else in this class, so I don't mind. The lift capacity is plenty, and the tractor mounted joystick has fast dump (regen) and float. My loader frame rattles some with nothing in the bucket. I think there was a shim that dealers were welding in, so I'll figure something out. This loader was the last of it's kind, and has a support at the front of the tractor. It also has the "factory" hose routing with the quick connects at the back, which seems dumb to me. I'll be moving them to the right side, under the platform, when I replace the hoses this winter. I also have a Bradco 609 backhoe mounted to my tractor, and it seems like a good match. It is far more powerful than any factory backhoe offering today. I made a 4-point mount with braces to the loader mount arms, so I don't think I'll ever hurt the tractor. On nice bonus of the 1455/1455V compared to anything else out there is a higher flow rating of the hydraulic pumps - 11.4 main and 5.9 steering. With that much flow available, the loader and backhoe have decent speed without needing to run the engine at more than about 1500 RPM. That keeps fuel usage down, as this is a fairly big 2.8 liter engine. The 1455V uses a shuttle shift transmission with four speeds and three ranges. All 12 gears are nicely spaced, with no overlap. Low is REALLY LOW, and the top gear will run about 15 miles per hour at rated speed. I find myself running in third gear low for a lot of open loader work, and first and second gear high for covering ground. "

"Tractor has done all that we have asked for. Bought the largest HP compact tractor Massey had because of the low clearance getting into our horse barn. Had weight added to the tires and it has helped with traction. Bought it with a loader was a chore to get on and off. Traded in the loader when I got a MF 1648. Best idea I ever had."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Power for size, fuel economy, ROPS buzzing noise. Cons: Weak support for step up. Type of User: Homeowner 50-100 Acres Location: USA OH I also considered buying: New Holland Boomer 40
