PTO Hits Driveline Hard

"For those of you that use the PTO with heavy inertia implements like brush mowers and have issues with sheared pins/bolts, put a slip clutch in the PTO's driveline. I run a 10'3" trailed mower and it works great. Get one with and overrun clutch or add a separate overrun at the tractor PTO if the implement does not have one because the PTO is also braked HARD when shut off while the tractor key is on. "

"- Overall performance is okay. - Shifting both shuttle and transmission is poor. Gravely. - Company out of business. - Mitsubishi diesel is excellent. - Hydraulics are excellent. No leaks. - Has never failed to start and has original battery. - Bucket dumps extremely slow. - Has only 500 hours so not really tested time wise. - Has many special parts that are not handled by local John Deere dealer. Dollar wise if I were to buy another tractor, I'd buy a John Deere. Service by company, there is none period. I'd advise anybody to buy an old name such as John Deere."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Fortunately It's been a good tractor or I'd be at a great loss because of no company support. Cons: Poor shifting. Gravely, not smooth. If used daily by a professional farmer, I'm sure the shifting mechanism would fail. Type of User: Homeowner 10-50 Acres Location: USA ID I also considered buying:

"The shuttle shift went out at 130 hours. It took almost 3 months to fix and the dealer tried to charge me for work done under warranty. The seat mount fell apart and the seat cracked. The hydraulics are weak. The gears are hard to find and it sticks in 2nd. The tires are cracked already. The manual is is a half-*** translation of the Korean version. And the company is now out of business."

Pros: None. Cons: Poor value for the money. Type of User: Homeowner 10-50 Acres Location: CND OT I also considered buying:

"I purchased this 5740 mainly for snowblowing - otherwise a smaller/4wd without a cab would have been my choice. I am very impressed with the performance overall. I did however have clutch and synchronizer problems around 250 hrs. I am wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem. I have been using tractors for 40 years and clutch/sync problems have not been historically a problem. My last tractors were a Ford 3000 and Zetor 5340"

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Great cold weather starting, ease of PTO use, & good cab visibility. Cons: A little light in weight. I'm concerned about possible future transmission problems. Type of User: Homeowner 50-100 Acres Location: CND OT I also considered buying:

"Purchased tractor new in 2005. It's a very strong tractor and I really use it. I have had numerous problems with top AC hose. The line cracks at the mount to condenser due to vibration. I have stabilized it every way possible but still have replaced it 4 times. I'm currently have issues getting parts and service."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Great value and very strong tractor. Cons: Dealer network, service assistance, and parts availability. Type of User: Commercial Farmer Location: USA AL I also considered buying: Massey Ferguson 245, Mahindra 7010

"When my tractor arrived the only issue it had was that the tach was inoperative. After doing some troubleshooting I discovered the cable was not connected. I am not a heavy tractor user but this tractor does everything I need it to do compared to what I used in the past. I mainly move large round bales of hay and mow 3-4 times a year. The tractor has a comfortable platform with plenty of room and climbing up and down is easy on the LH side. I have never experienced a lack of power whether I am moving hay or using the FEL. The only thing that I am dis-satisfied with is how hard the PTO snaps on when the switch is engaged. I have to replace several shear pins just to get my mowing complete because they snap as soon as I engage the PTO. There should have been some sort of ramp up engagement for the PTO."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Comfortable, plenty of power, good value Cons: PTO engagement, plastic fuel tank, screen in front of radiator, awkward positioned floor fuel pedal Type of User: Homeowner 1-10 Acres Location: USA KS I also considered buying:

"Sticks in 2nd gear. The dealer showed me how to get it unstuck but no indication on how to fix it. Loader hydraulics seem weak. PTO manual switch only works intermittently. Engine RPM has to be really high to get 540 PTO RPM. Exhaust stack blows out a spray of soot particle on startup - usually all over the side of my house or back in my face if the wind is right."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Starts easily. I like the creeper gears Cons: Sticks in 2nd gear. Loader hydraulics seem weak, PTO manual switch only works intermittently. Engine RPM has to be really high to get 540 PTO RPM. Type of User: Homeowner 10-50 Acres Location: CND OT I also considered buying:

"This tractor had many more standard features than most other tractors I looked at when I purchased it back in Feb. 2005. The Mitsubishi 4 cyl diesel engine is excellent and with 4 cylinders, it too was a great standard feature that most other tractors couldn't compete with. The weakness in my Montana 5740C tractor was the hard plastic fuel tank and Montana itself has admitted that the tank design was flawed. In my case, after repairing it twice, I took the hard plastic tank off and had a local welder make me a custom tank to the exact dimensions of the hard plastic one, so now I've eliminated that problem completely. Otherwise, it has been an excellent tractor with little to no problems. Price wise, it was $10,000.00 less that one of the name brands at the time, equipped the same, making it in my opinion, an excellent value. "

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Price, Standard Equipment, and Quality Cons: Dealer network nationwide and especially in my state has dwindled, making it very difficult in that regard. Type of User: Homeowner 50-100 Acres Location: USA TX I also considered buying:
