"Great tractor. Bought new in 2000. Tractor now has over 2,000 hours. No problems. Had to replace battery after 10 years."
"This has been a great rider mower tractor. Have been mowing 4-6 acres of lawn for the last 10 years, has not missed a lick. I have done maintenance on it every spring. I've installed grease zerks on the mower spindles, high lift blades. Battery and mower belt and a starter solenoid have been the only parts replaced. Great machine would buy another one in a heart beat."
"I have owned the Scotts 1642 Lawn Tractor about nine years now. Build quality is okay for a low end product. Overall, the only problem I have had with this tractor has been externally with the transmission. Model K51A. I have replaced the drive pulley and fan three times now. This can be a real time consumer for the do-it-yourselfer. Now I have a stripped shaft atop the transmission. Not wanting to do a rebuild myself, or buy a new transmission for a tractor this old. I finally welded the pulley to the stripped shaft. It works fine for now, but my thoughts are that I would not recommend buying this tractor. For a little more money, and dropping prices across the various manufacturers, I would shop around."
"I had 8 good years using this tractor but the tranny went and looking on the net I'm not the only one. The tranny is a tuff torq k51a, and it has many upset people. I would by any other John Deere product but this one. They should give a break to those who have a loss tranny but not."
