Woods RD990-X
Model Year: 2014
One of the "ears" on the belt guard next to the mounting bolt broke off after the first year, but by far the biggest issue is with the blade removal. Woods advertises the blades as "quick change". NOT!!! Woods technical service reps have no advice whatsoever, having never worked on one themselves. The bolt-heads have minimal clearance between the bolt and the bottom of the deck, making it impossible to get a socket/ratchet or socket/breaker bar on the bolt. As for an impact wrench, forget it. I have to use a box end wrench slanted down with pipe. No access from the top the of deck, so obviously you have to raise and block up the deck and crawl underneath. Oh, even with dry grass, you have to mow 1-2 times per week if you don't want the grass to clump. Rear discharge does not scatter grass well.
Pros: Good size, easy height adjustment
Cons: Blade removal, thin safety covers
